TUESDAY TALKS: SIMON HILL
- Founder of the www.plantproof.com & Plant Proof Podcast
The 3 foods I can’t live without: hummus (chickpeas), tempeh and brown rice
Favourite pre-workout meal: I workout early on an empty stomach, just coffee!
Favourite post-workout meal: a high carb, low fat, moderate protein meal like a smoothie bowl with plant protein or a Buddha bowl with lots of greens, rice and tempeh
Favourite kind of relax: walking my puppy Gnocchi
My quilty-pleasure: homemade vegan choc chip cookie dough in banana nicecream. Not overly guilty though because it’s actually refined sugar free and tastes amazing.
How long have you been vegan and what Inspired you to make that transition?
3 years - inspired to improve my health and reduce my risk of chronic illness, particularly cardiovascular disease (namely, heart attack and stroke).
Have you noticed any changes since becoming vegan?
I’ve become leaner, happier, have clearer skin and am more compassionate to everyone and everything in my life.
Can you share with us your workout routine? How often do you train?
I train 6 days a week for 45 min at high intensity in the gym. I do a lot of compound exercises and then change my isolation exercises and rep range regular to stop the body adapting.
How does your typical “day on the plate” looks like?
First meal is usually overnight oats with lots of berries, second some sort of huge salad with quinoa/brown rice and tofu or tempeh. Third something like sweet potato with legumes, broccoli and another salad. In between I often snack on things like hummus or homemade bean dip with carrot, plant protein shakes (maybe 1 a day average), banana or another piece of fruit.
Your Instagram account @plant_proof has grown incredibly and you are currently inspiring more than 100 000 people. What is the number 1 advice you would give to someone who wants to become a strong & healthy vegan?
Educate yourself on why you are making a change to your diet. Once you know the health benefits of a plant based diet and feel the added compassion that comes with this lifestyle you won’t look back. Then it’s just about fine tuning your own meals to work with your own personal health & wellness/performance goals. So my #1 advice is to educate yourself. I recommend the books How Not To Die and Becoming Vegan along with my website plantproof.com :)
